Delete your MyTaxMate account

You can request deletion of your MyTaxMate account and the personal data we hold about you at any time. This page explains how to do that, how long it takes, and what gets deleted versus retained.
1.How to request deletion
Email us from the address registered to your MyTaxMate account:
Subject: Delete my account
Body: Please delete my MyTaxMate account and all associated data.
We'll confirm receipt within 2 working days, verify your identity (we'll ask one or two security questions to make sure it's really you), and complete the deletion within 30 days of verification.
2.What gets deleted
On account deletion, the following data is permanently removed from our active systems within 30 days:
- Account email, password hash, and login session
- Profile data — full name, MyKad / TIN numbers, date of birth, marital status, address, phone number, employer info, bank details
- Dependent records — names, MyKad numbers, relationships
- Tax accounts — every year of assessment you created, with the associated income records, relief claims, and computed tax calculations
- Receipts — uploaded photos, extracted merchant / amount / category fields, and any Smart Scan analysis
- Chat history with Kira (the in-app tax assistant)
- Push notification tokens registered on your device(s)
3.What gets retained, and why
Malaysian law (Income Tax Act 1967, section 82) requires taxpayers to keep records that support their tax filings for seven years after the relevant year of assessment. Where the records you submitted to MyTaxMate support a filing you actually made with LHDN, we retain a minimal copy of those records — separated from your account and de-linked from your personal identity wherever possible — for that legal retention window.
Specifically retained beyond account deletion:
- Anonymised tax computation snapshots (no name, MyKad, or email attached) for any year you marked as “filed”, kept for 7 years after the year of assessment
- Receipt photos for filed years, kept in encrypted cold storage, accessible only on a documented audit request
- Aggregated, fully anonymised analytics about app usage — never tied to your identity
If LHDN never receives a filing from you (e.g. you only used MyTaxMate to plan and never marked a year as filed), even these records are deleted along with your account.
We also retain transactional logs (login attempts, error logs) that contain your account ID for up to 90 days for security purposes — these do not include profile or tax data.
4.Partial deletion
If you want to delete only some of your data — for example, a single year's tax account or a specific receipt — without closing your whole account, you can do that yourself inside the app:
- Delete a tax account: open the account, click the menu icon (three dots) in the top-right, choose Delete account.
- Delete a receipt: open the receipt, tap the trash icon.
- Delete a dependent: open Profile, find the dependent, tap remove.
These actions soft-delete immediately and hard-delete from our database within 30 days, subject to the same 7-year retention on filed records.
5.Data export before deletion
If you want a copy of your data before requesting deletion, email support@mytaxmate.my with the subject “Data export request”. We'll send you a JSON archive of your account, profile, tax accounts, and receipts within 7 working days.
